“What’s the Homework for Tuesday?”

Today, I received the following e-mail message that had been sent to the entire class.

“I discovered that I don’t have the correct URL for the web site [for Tuesday’s homework].”

As members of the faculty, we have all received e-mail asking about the assignment. However, in this case, I am sure that the students chuckled because the e-mail had been sent by me.

During class, a student had shown us a web site. Instead of sticking with the material I had prepared, I decided to use his site as the basis for the homework assignment. Unfortunately, when I returned to my office, I discovered that I did not have the correct URL.

What’s a teacher to do when he discovers he don’t know the homework assignment? Sending an e-mail to the class seemed to be the best option.
