May 3: Washington, DC Incorporated
On May 3 of 1802 the capital of the United States of America was incorporated into America as a city.
The idea for Washington D.C. originally started twelve years before the actual founding of the city. Washington D.C. is a rather special city that came into being because of what was needed, not because of where people clustered and prospered. D.C. was originally a concept that was written up in the residence act which allowed our first president George Washington to select where it is that the area that would become the capital of our country would be placed. The area that Washington selected included two preexisting cities: George Town, Maryland and Alexandria Virginia.
Washington D.C. is a very interesting representation of America itself. Many people do not assume, but still seem to assume that the United States of America has always existed and always will exist. D.C. is a much smaller scale example of how wrong acting like that is. D.C. was a city that was founded to govern, and that is all. The scale that D.C. has grown since its founding is rather staggering. The population alone has gone from 8,144 residents to 632,323 people. This number doesn’t cover the number of businesses or any other changes that have happened, but the population alone is an indicator that D.C. has changed quite dramatically from what it originally was and perhaps from what it was intended for.
From issues in education to curriculum development, from leadership to human development, the focus is given to a lot of areas to help students grasp the virtues of teaching. generic super cialis http://robertrobb.com/sky-harbor-fees-are-really-a-liberal-tax/ A rather disturbing, nerve-wrecking cialis for woman occurrence. D.C. is a very nice reminder of exactly how young we are as a country, but it is also a very powerful reminder of what it is and what it does. D.C. is a city that was founded to govern America. Without pointing any fingers, the growth of D.C. itself is a strong reminder that if a city created to govern is founded and then grows over seventy seven times bigger, perhaps the city is not all that has grown. Perhaps the amount of power in the city has grown too large as well. The city may be too big. Maybe the city is too much. These are not accusations made by myself or by the changes of the city. These are simply ideas that have the best interest of the people at heart. They are ideas that are to help the people of America to be able to govern themselves and to not hand over what D.C. was founded for. To help us govern ourselves.
