February 10: Treaty of Paris
On the 10 February 1763 the Treaty of Paris was signed between France and Great Britain. This treaty ended the French and Indian war and France lost the Canadian territories. In this war they loss Québec, an important city because it gave access to the St. Lawrence River and access to the American colonies.
Quebec today has kept a lot of their French culture. French is still heavily spoken and is one of the main languages spoken in Canada.
The history of this war is still part of this province. Before the war, Québec was a French colony; its main trade was fur. It was the largest French colony in the Americas. The treaty allowed Quebec to keep its culture and religion. Still to this day they would rather be their own country instead of being a part of England. They still have the canons that were used during the French and Indian war. They still have the church of Victoria which is in the center of old town Quebec. They have tours you were can go to and see the fort that the French used.
The British influence is also still strong in Quebec. Instead of only speaking French they also need to know how to speak English. Quebec uses the British school system. They are still ruled by the British monarchy. Not only do they talk about what the French went thought, they talk about what England went though as well.
The French and Indian war made Québec the melting pot that it is.
