The building of the bridge was not easy. The workers worked in damp and dangerous conditions. Many of the men actually became ill and some even died.

The Brooklyn Bridge opened on 24 May1883. Although the bridge took a lot of engineering and there were a lot of problems to overcome, the bridge had a great amount of public acclaim. The bridge was built with such great strength that it represented the technological achievements for that time and many people were inspired by it.

In the nineteenth century, the bridge was built for easy access to the city. People crossed the bridge for work, play, and just about anything else they needed to do on the other side. When the bridge first opened, it cost a penny to cross on foot, two cents per sheep, five cents for horse and rider, and ten cents for a horse pulling a wagon.

Today the Brooklyn Bridge is still open and used for people that need to go into the city for business, vacation, or anything else. The bridge is free today, since the pedestrian toll was repealed in 1891.

I am in the middle of my first semester here at Schoolcraft College. I plan to transfer to Wayne State University next year with an undecided major. My favorite thing to do is to go snowboarding in the winter. Other than that I just like to hang out with my friends and try new things.
