The queen immortalized Nicot by proclaiming the new plant Nicotiana. This became known as Nicotine, the addictive drug in modern cigarettes.

In early times, smoking was primarily used as a medicine, but slowly became a fashionable pastime in early Europe, similar to modern day. Even though tobacco is still a very popular social drug, our understanding of the drug is incredibly different.
