On 6 March 1865, Abraham Lincoln attended his second inaugural ball, two days after his second inauguration and a month before he was killed. The Civil War had just ended and many people were upset that Lincoln had an extravagant ball to celebrate his inauguration. However, Lincoln had just saved a country from splitting and, in effect, cemented his spot in American history.

Lincoln’s murder brings in to mind the murders of many of those in power. Julius Caesar was in at a good point in his life when he was assassinated by those that hated the fact he was receiving so much support. The little known King Gustav III was involving the country in a war while still spending money on antiquities to make the city appear decent and his assassins evidently were tired of it. John F. Kennedy was in a presidential motorcade when he was murdered.

These murders, although happening at different times, all display a similar characteristic. The one murdered was high in power and enjoying victory after conquering a huge ordeal near the time of their deaths.
