2014-07-22bOn 22 July 70, the Jewish Troops lost the city of Jerusalem to the Roman army.

Conflict and war over Jerusalem is a current event. However, where did the first major incident occur where a war was fought over this holy city? During 70 CE, the Roman Empire sought to destroy the city with all of the Jewish residents that inhabited the city. The Romans and Jews have had many more major conflicts.

This event had a much larger impact on the course of history for the Jewish religion. Emperor Titus was the ruler at the time of the attack; however, the attack on Jerusalem began in 66 CE. The Jewish defenders that held the city were caught off guard in their sleep when the, “Romans breach (the) Third Wall May 25 and capture (the) New City,” (Biblical Studies 1500B.C. – 70A.D.). A few days after the capture of the Jerusalem, Romans were able to slowly push back the Jewish defenders. Eventually, by July 22, the Jewish troops lost the city of Jerusalem to the Roman army.

While Jewish priests tried to reason with Titus to leave some buildings standing, Titus saw no need in allowing the Second Temple to continue standing. The Romans burned the Second Temple. To this day, Jews still morn over the loss of the temples and the loss of so many ancestors on the destruction of Jerusalem.
