On 27 December 537 CE, the Hagia Sophia was completed. This beautiful mansion makes its current home in Istanbul, Turkey and is one of the main attractions to that sight. It originally served as a Greek Orthodox Patriarchal Basilica Church but now mainly serves as a museum to tourist and those native to that region. This building is well known for its huge 105 foot dome that has bright, beautiful paintings on the inside.

Although it only took about six years to complete this massive church, it was actually the third time that it had been re-built. It is said that construction originally started in 325. by Constantine 1 on the foundation of a pagan temple. It was however burnt down in 404. It was not until 415 that Thedosius 2 rebuilt the church and restored it to its former glory. Unfortunately, it was burned down once again and was not rebuilt until 532 by Justinian 1. Since the last revision of the church, it has had only a few more constructional amendments, such as in 562 when the part of the dome was rebuilt do to an earthquake in 558.

The Hagia Sophia is a wonderful reminder that the things of the past can still be relevant and beautiful pieces of our lives today. It also helps us see that difficult times can bring revision and a stronger future.
