On 7 November 1932, the first broadcast of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century aired on CBS Radio. Prior to the radio show, a comic strip under the same title began the Buck Rogers saga. To conform with the burst in popularity of radio in the 1930s, the story presented in the comic was carried over to the next big form of entertainment.

The economic depression lead many Americans searching for a moment in their day to break away from the hardships they were facing. Radio was the perfect way to do such a thing. Along with news and music, talk shows and other radio programs entertained and informed many people across the nation. Families would sit around their home radio set and tune in to hear the buzz of the day or to put themselves into the story of an interesting radio show. The Buck Rogers program was the first science fiction series to aired on the radio. Children viewed Buck as a hero due to his ability to fend off evil throughout the program.

The radio series was eventually moved over to television. The short lived live-broadcast Buck Rogers show ran from April 1950 to January 1951. Later, the Buck Rogers movie of 1979 revived interests in the character enough to create a second TV series, only this time, the production lasted through two seasons of episodes which were greatly appreciated by Buck Rogers fanatics throughout the country.
