On 18 September 1837, Charles Lewis Tiffany and Teddy Young opened a new store to serve the citizens of New York.

At that time, New York City was experiencing dynamic growth and opportunities. One of those opportunities was the opening of Tiffany & Company. Tiffany and Young opened the story with a $1,000 advance from Tiffany’s father and would grow to be what is known today as one of the best jewelry companies. The shop started out as a “stationary and fancy goods emporium” but was later taken control of by Tiffany himself who decided to focus more towards jewelry as opposed to the other fancy goods. They discovered that this new place was breaking away from the usual European design and was moving more towards the “American Style.” While the European style was more about ceremonial patterns, the Tiffany style was more inspired by the natural world. Simple patterns, harmony, and clarity were the basic roots of their style.
